Putrajaya is beautiful city. It is surprising that I have lived in Malaysia for 13 years and this is my first visit. It is an expansive and clean lake to paddle on with lots of great scenery to keep the trip interesting. We paddled to McDonald's and had breakfast. The only problem with this lake is that technically, you are not allowed to paddle on it. The general rule seems to be that if you get there early enough (like 7:30 am), nobody will hassle you. A friend who came about 8:30 tried to launch twice from 2 different spots and was stopped both times. There is a SUP rental place on the lake, but you are limited to a small area of the lake and it is expecting that if you are paddling there, you are renting a board from the shop.

I wanted to see if I could beat my best time for 5 km, but it was a windy afternoon, so I just paddled around and focused on my paddle technique.

My board had 3 small plastic fins, which I guess is great for versatility, but not great for flat water tracking. But, the best part of having a weakness is that it provides an opportunity to build a strength. So, I spent this session putting YouTube tutorial videos to practice. My goal was to improve my paddle stroke for better tracking (going in a strait line). I went from paddling about 5 times on one side before switching to about 7. Some of the main things I was working on was keeping my paddle shaft vertical, pulling slightly towards the board with the blade slightly facing inward, and feathering the paddle blade out of the water when it gets to my feet.

Great little flat water lake for a social paddle and enjoying the beauty of the jungle. The fact that it doesn't even show up Google maps will help to ensure that it secluded for the near future. Like so many of the paddle spots around KL, the developers are moving in. There is already housing along the end of the lake and there is a new development going up on the side of the lake. Truth be told, this lake is likely there because of development. It appears to be a flooded valley, with the trunks of rotting trees poking up through the water in many places. It looks the drainage of water from the valley was cut off by infill to make a plateau to build houses on. Either way, it is a beautiful spot to paddle and spend the day with friends.

I wanted to see what kind of average speed I could get over 5 km with focused sustained paddling. I currently have an aluminum shaft paddle with a plastic blade that came with my board. It is heavy and doesn't perform well. I'm waiting on the delivery of a 3-piece Werner Trance 95 carbon paddle that I bought on-line. I want to repeat this session with the new paddle when I get it to compare results.

Tasik Biru (Blue Lake) is a nice place for a relaxing scenic paddle. You may be sharing the relatively small lake with jet skis, but they seem pretty respectful to paddlers. They tend to show up latter in the afternoon, so if you want the lake to yourself, you are better to head out in the morning. There are some pretty shallow areas which may be comforting if you are a beginner and not a strong swimmer.

Great lake for an extended paddle. With a bit of portaging you could access all the lakes in the general area.
It is an area of contrasts. I some some great natural beauty including a water monitor lizard the size of a small crocodile, contrasted with floating islands of plastic detritus. There are all sorts of shacks and small kampung along the waters edge, contrasted with big condo and cookie cutter townhouse developments.
There was a strong wind from the south during my whole paddle that kept me virtually paddling on the spot at times. I enjoyed the challenge.
It is a bit hard to find an entrance to the lake. I entered through a construction site. It was easy on my motorbike, but it would not work for a car. But, you could easily park on Jalan Putra Prima Utama and hike in. Once the construction is finished I'm sure it will be gated and I will have to find a new entry point. It was a holiday when I went so it was very quiet.
