playing around with recipes. is always fun.

First paddle after pulling my abdominal oblique muscle (couple weeks ago). Which is a common injury among paddlers and absolutely painful. I thought pulling a groin was bad, that is nothing compared to this.

Muscle is still not healed takes up to 6 weeks while avoiding anything that can set it off again. (basically: the less time you let it heal = the longer it takes to heal).

Which sucks because I have a huge race in less then 2 weeks! (www.chattajack.com). I went from training to compete, to even wondering if I can complete it.

How to remedy this you ask? Well for 1. My mental game is shot. 2. My fitness took a beating. 3. Also will doing this event make my injury worse (longer recovery, or doing some major damage, which could result in possible surgery).

Well I'm going to go for it, but I have to solve some issue first:

      1. I'm not even going to use my race board till the event. I'm going to train on the biggest slowest board I have. Why? I want my mental game at its lowest before I start the race. That way and I hope this works. When I get on my race board. I will have the impression that it's going faster then the board I have been training on and i will trick my brain into thinking positive. Which if all goes well I will be able to push past that mental hurdle of defeat.

      2. Fitness is going to be rough. I'm now training to have a set pace with shorter sprints and less sprints. If I can maintain a constant slower pace I should be able to at least finish the race. I know the speed at which I can travel and the distance I can cover; but now I have to think of a steady pace. Oh and train for it in less then 2 weeks.

      3. This I dread, if all else fail and the injury gets worse before the race. I have to consider not doing the race (which sucks because I'm flying 2500 miles to do it). But I have to remember I do have a life outside of paddling and my health is critical to me making a income. (pay bills, etc). So let's hope everything works out for the best.

Sorry Trotters bit of a read here.

I was running a work shop to introduce people to paddling in cold weather. Which I called Cool Weather Paddling. I have had a turn out between 3-6 people through out the month. I run the workshop every Thursday. The day was perfect flat water and no wind. Which made the class very happy. to finish it out we have a nice camp fire. Where the group would soak marshmallows in Baileys Liquor and toasted the marshmallows on a fire. Was pretty tastie. (I could only have one, because I was driving).
      cheers Trotters.

Day started of with hail (which is a cross between rain and snow). Then to rain and pretty much everything else. Low fog was in the area. Which I like because I don't get to see it all to often. Was a steady paddle with a interval session up a narrow canyon on the Yukon River. Did the usuall sprint at the end to finish it off.
Temperature is 0 celicius (32 Fahrenheit)
Made the move from my neoprene booties to my insulated rubber boot or insulated wellies (as the English call them). They are nice at keep my feet warm, but can be a bit tricky with balancing on the board.
Did a short paddle today was feeling a bit soar from Sunday paddle. I used the NK Speedcoach (www.nkhome.com/rowing-sports-products/speedcoach-sup) on my last paddle to help improve my stroke and I used it again (and with every paddle I do from now on) I like it a lot. It has giving me a amazing spread of stats to work from and my stroke is getting better.

Start off the fall training. Temperature is 0 Celsius (32 Fehrenhiet). Possible went up to 4 Celsius(39 Fahrenhiet) during the day.
Had with me my GoPros and my NK-SpeedCoach 2. (really like this gizmo. I noticed a definite improvement in stroke, right away)
      Website: www.NKHome.com
Was a great day for a paddle after about KM 12 (mile 8) the wind was either a head wind or a tail wind. It switched so much that they canceled each other for my timing. I held a steady pace on stopped for about 5 min so my feet could warm up (it can be a bit chilly on the toes at this temperature). last half mile was finished off with a sprint.
I'm getting into a race called www.chattajack.com, and it's getting down to crunch time. There are 2 check points for the race one is at 16KM (10 mile) this you have to be at with in 2 hours or its a Do Not Finish. The other is at the end 50KM (31 mile) which you need to hit in 8 hours or you get a DNF. I'm stocked to be putting in some quality training.

Paddled past a group of tourist on the river, probably 15 people. They where cheering me on to go faster. Was very cool to have that happen.
