Pevensey Bay is a great spot offering flat water paddling together with waves when the wind blows. Parking is best at the main beach carpark but you will have to pay. I think it's £3 for all day parking. The prevailing South Westerlies blow are slightly off shore so be careful if you are a beginner. Its also best at low tide when there is a large expanse of sand with no rocks or other hazards to worry you. High tide can be a little tricky with groynes to get in the way but on a calm day they won't present a problem. Sea breezes can pick up during summer afternoons which can chop up the water a little. Being the UK, a wetsuit is recommended if you feel the cold. The warmest water temps are not until September and a warm sunny day in May can still only provide 10-11 degrees water temp. As with anywhere, please take home what you bring to the beach. It never ceases to amaze me how much rubbish is left on the beach after a busy day. We've just started a Facebook group, 'Bay Beach Clean' and hoping to make folks aware of the fragility of our planet. Happy paddling!

A quick paddle on my little Stubby while my mate paddled my AllStar. The StubbyAir is a nice little board, fairly stable and tracks pretty good for an 8'6 stick. Goes quite fast when you put some effort in! I'm hoping my family will get on with it ok as it's coming with us to Brittany in August. I can't get my rigid boards in or on my 1970 VW Camper so an inflatable which I can use in waves was the choice.

      Surf

      01:20:00

A little surf session in some wind driven waves. Only about 1.5' but fun to be out in the sunshine with my bro. I didn't record the session on the app being a surf session but is anyone having issues tracking on iphones? My previous session didn't track correctly and I've had other strange data too.

A nice paddle in the sunshine with board shorts and rash vest! Made a bit of an effort and I'm happy I made the decision to buy a new paddle. I could keep up my stroke rate over the whole session where as before with the 95inch blade I would have been struggling after an hour. My DaKine hydration pack was a good buy too and is being well used.

No idea what has been recorded until I publish this. Seems to be a few discrepancies with the sessions recently. Nice paddle without a wetsuit for the first time this year. Water temperature is only 12 degrees still so there was no way I wanted to fall in! Just looked. Only a few hundred meters recorded before it stopped. Probably the spray on the phone case or something. Did 6k though

A lovely non tidal river with a launch from Middle Bridge on the A259, 2km East of Pevensey. Parking isn't great but it's doable if its not busy. Park on the bridge or just before. Launch on the North side with relatively easy access to the water. After paddling 2.5km you'll get to Horse Bridge and another 3km further on is Boreham Hill. The river stays pretty much the same width, approx 6-8m. You can paddle South too but will need to cross the busy main road as you can't paddle under Middle Bridge. There is Parking a 200m further east of the bridge on the south side. The only potential downside to the spot is fishermen. Parking will be difficult and ( I assume) they won't take kindly to paddleboards. Paddle at less busy times or avoid the fishing season all together. Pevensey Marsh is very exposed so winds can be an issue. Having said all that it's a really nice river to paddle on!

      Surf

      02:00:00

After months of no decent surf, a rare groundswell was predicted. An anxious day at work was spent checking the local wave buoy stats on Magicseaweed. Got to the beach and found a nice 2-2.5' wave but with a decent period. You guys with proper waves will probably laugh at that but that's pretty good round here! Had a nice mellow session with a couple of mates in the sunshine. Happy days.

      Surf

      01:30:00

We were desperate and we got desperate waves! I'd hoped that the windy spell would bring something to surf, anything in fact. It ended up being a constant battle to hold your ground in the wind with 12-18" mushy waves. We should be grateful though. It was sunny and we were paddleboarding!!

Mucking about in tiny waves on the AllStar. When the Earth was created God forgot to bless Pevensey Bay with surf. Bummer! We've not had decent waves here for about 2 months now but wind is forecast so hoping for something over the next few days. Anything will do. I'm desperate for a surf!!

Nice paddle in to a pretty strong headwind and chop to start with. First time using my new Starboard Bolt paddle. I decided on a medium blade (79inch) and it seems to perform really well. Certainly in to the headwind it allowed a much faster cadence with less fatigue. Very happy with it. Cutting the shaft was a nervous affair. I've been using my Black Project Vario at at 196cm but cut the Bolt at 198 which seem to be right.

As with most South East beaches, its a pebble beach with sand at low tide. Great for a fun flat water paddle with generally easy parking. Being free it does get busy in the summer. There is a reasonable wave in the right conditions. It relies on a decent blow to generate the waves and rarely picks up ground swell. Get it right and 3' lefts and rights can be found usually about 3 hours after high tide For families, wait til low tide and avoid the groynes.

Trying to nail pivot turns in preparation for a possible first race this year. Finding it a little tricky on the narrow Allstar but committed to getting it dialed. After paddling upwind in to chop at a decent cadence I'm definitely buying a smaller bladed paddle. My cadence has gone from low 40's to nearly 50 per minute but it's not sustainable for an hour plus. So much to learn about paddling!

Nice paddle in the sunshine and took my Stylemaster as I didn't want to leave my bro behind on his Allwave! A little further to travel next time as the wind really picked up and was in our faces on the return journey. Still another 6 weeks of fishermen free paddling though before the few get all territorial and dish out abuse. Chill dudes!

Pevensey Bay not so good so looked for a bit more exposure to the swell. Surfed a punchy 2-3' right working on an incoming tide. The man made shelter gave a bit of protection from the strong Westerly. We'll take anything we can get here on the South Coast and can't afford to be fussy!
